The Companions

Susan - Sarah-Jane

Dr Harry Sullivan

Naval physician seconded to UNIT. Carries Old World charm rather too far. Passionate about blazers. Courageous but somewhat thick-headed. Misidentifies Sarah as an old thing. Deemed an imbecile by the Doctor. Cloned from 1920s passenger liner officer.

Leela

Warrior of the Sevateem. Rarely uses contractions. Leather fetishist. Mad keen on threatening people with lethal force. Skilled in knife-throwing and vegetable poisons. Fell in love with Gallifreyan milquetoast she barely spoke ten words to.

K9

Dog-shaped mobile computer. Arrogant, pedantic, has a noisy motor. Sometimes appears to lack innards. Considers the TARDIS unintelligent. Less water-resistant than a cream cracker. Somehow develops laryngitis despite having no organic components. Enjoys probing things.

Romana I

Statuesque brunette Time Lady. Has impeccable fashion sense. Loves to psychoanalyse the Doctor. Sometimes known as Fred. Considers fragile sandals excellent footwear for tramping around sodden moors. Regenerated because she was bored.

Romana II

Diminutive blonde second incarnation. Has own sonic screwdriver. Talks like a member of the British royalty. Somewhat quick-tempered. Not afraid to take charge in tense situations. Almost visited Cambridge once. Gets on well with leonine time sensitives.

Adric

Brilliant child prodigy from the planet Alzarius. Wears a combined mathematics excellence badge and emergency anti-Cybermen weapon. Sexist, immature, overly fond of befriending evil aliens. Wears plastic pyjamas as dayware. Nobly sacrificed his life in an attempt to pervert the course of history.

Nyssa

Gentle, classically beautiful scientist from the doomed planet Traken. Acts as the quiet and sensible anchor of the TARDIS crew. Sheds clothing when afflicted with radiation poisoning. Haunted by the death of her noble father. Provides handy explanations for the presence of enigmatic white-coloured intermediate Doctor incarnations.

Tegan Jovanka

Australian air hostess. Argumentative, stubborn, prone to panic attacks and bouts of anger. Becomes erotic when possessed by extra-dimensional serpent demons. Embodies mid-80s fashions. Lacks knowledge about how 13th Century people maintained healthy room temperature. Left the Doctor after one too many doses of misery and slaughter.

Vislor Turlough

Alien from the planet Trion, exiled to Earth. Tried to kill the Doctor for the first part of his time with him. Bears potato-stamp prison brand on arm. Devious, cowardly, resourceful and self-reliant. Not afraid to wear beach shorts or hang round with boys called Hippo.

Kameleon

Shape-changing silver android from the planet Zeriphas. Erstwhile slave of the Master. Plays the lute beautifully. Hid in the TARDIS for almost all the time he was with the Doctor. Has 'King John' as his default voice.

Perpugillium 'Peri' Brown

Buxom American botanist, one of many recent companions to have had relatives killed by the Master. Perky, constantly whining, dresses with the accent on cleavage and garish eccentricity. Killed by a mad scientist in a mind-swap operation, only to be inexplicably resurrected. Developed affection for annoyingly loud barbarian king out of nowhere.

Melanie Bush

Small-statured computer expert with flaming red hair. Screams at the drop of a hat. Relentlessly cheerful. Brooks no argument when subjecting the Doctor to weight-loss regimes. Has a good memory. Does not look even vaguely like the Rani. Has no time for Charles Dickens quotations when being impersonated by the Valeyard. Joins the Doctor in his travels before he meets her.

Dorothy McShane AKA 'Ace'

Bold-as-brass teenager from 80s Earth, transported to IceWorld by Fenric as part of a needlessly complex revenge stratagem against the Doctor. Skilled at making weak explosives. Enjoys jazz music and dated slang terms. Encounters elements of her unpleasant past almost every time she steps outside the TARDIS.

Dr Grace Holloway

American heart surgeon from 1999. Achieved the impossible by getting to snog the Doctor. Runs well in silly evening dress. Passed up a new life of thrilling adventure with a sexy alien in favour of fitting pacemakers to elderly dentists.

Chang Lee

Asian gang member from 1999 San Francisco. Was a willing accomplice of the Master until the Doctor showed him the error of his ways. Was bribed not to join the Time Lord in his travels.
