Comments

A traditional adventure. Mel selflessly lets the Doctor go off dragon hunting while she befriends Ace. Even after finding out that Glitz has sold his crew, Mel still insists he's 'all right underneath'. Getting along with Ace proves rather trying; she's not the easiest of people to relate to. Mel seems to enjoy blowing things up though...

The pair go in search of the Doctor and Glitz. There's a rather nice scene in the novelisation where Mel saves Ace's life halfway down the chasm, but this isn't in the televised story. Shame really. Once again, Mel seems to enjoy throwing Ace's cans of nitro at the approaching zombies.

After they find the Doctor, he promptly leaves them in a cave playing 'I Spy' while he sods off to do something more interesting. He later gives the Dragonfire crystal to Mel for safekeeping and she then faced with the dilemma of giving it to Kane or watching him freeze dry Ace.

Mel's leaving scene is quite good, though it's a rewrite of the original ending. Her leaving the Doctor is explained in Head Games, though not in a very flattering way towards the Doctor.
